چکیده
Vertical and horizontal spatial variability in the biodegradation of the herbicide bentazone was compared in sandy-loam soil from an agricultural field using sieved soil, which represents the method most widely used to investigate biodegradation rates, and intact soil cores. An initial experiment compared degradation at 5 depths between 0 and 80 cm using sieved soil. Degradation was shown to follow first order kinetics, and DT50 declined progressively with soil depth from 56 days at 0-10 cm to 520 days at 70-80 cm. DT50 was significantly correlated with organic matter, pH and dehydrogenase. In a subsequent experiment, degradation rate was compared after 127 days in sieved soil and intact cores from 0-10 and 50-60 cm depth from 10 locations across a 160 x 90 m portion of the field. Method of incubation significantly affected mean dissipation rate, although there were relatively small differences in the amount of pesticide remaining in intact cores and sieved soil, ranging between 4.6 and 10.6 %. Spatial variability in degradation rate was higher in soil from 0-10 cm depth relative

The Effect of Spatial Variability and Anisotropy of Soils on Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations
Naturally occurred soil deposits inherit heterogeneity and anisotropy in their strength properties. The main purpose of this paper is to model the soil stratum with anisotropy consideration and spatially varying undrained shear strength by using random field theory coupled with finite difference numerical analysis to evaluate their effect on the bearing capacity of the shallow foundations. In t...
متن کاملImpact of Distillery Effluent and Salts on Hydraulic Conductivity of a Sandy Loam Soil
Irrigation with distillery effluent, besides influencing crop yield, may have considerable impact on physical properties of soil because of its high salt and organic carbon contents. This experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effect of distillery effluent on hydraulic conductivity of a sandy loam alluvial soil and compare the effect of inorganic salts of potassium (K) with that of di...
متن کاملEffect of Urban Waste Compost Leachate on the Soil Physical, Hydraulic, Moisture Characteristics and Corn Yield
Compost leachate is a liquid resulting from physical, chemical and biological decomposition of organic materials. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of leachate compost on the physical, hydraulic and soil moisture characteristic curves. Also, the effect of leachate on the aerial organ fresh weight of corn was investigated. Leachate was added to clay loam and sandy cl...

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Changing the forests and pasture landuses to agricultural lands is one of the major global concerns about environmental degradation and climate change. As a result of the rangeland and forest changes into agricultural land and also tillage operations, about 430 million hectares, representing 30% of the world's total plowed land, are annually eroded and leavin...

While Iran is confronted with deficiency of fresh water resources, raising agricultural water use efficiency (WUE) is inevitable. A management method which could be effective in increasing agricultural WUE is PRD irrigation method. In PRD method, half of the root zone is irrigated and the other half is kept dry intermittently. The objective of this research was to study yield, yield components ...
